Mineral King Evacuation Update

Guy Wollenman (WMK-1) spoke with a NPS official who said things are still positive on the SQF Complex Fire front, and the Mineral King area remains under a Voluntary Evacuation order.  BUT the fire is still progressing on certain flanks, and can turn around in an instant, depending on wind and temperature.  We're especially keeping an eye on the South Fork portion of the fire by Homer's Nose, Cahoon Ridge and Hockett Meadow.

The road is still open to cabin owners (make sure you lock yourself in, and lock yourself out) but it could be shut down at any time. They will try and give us 48 hours' notice (which I will pass along), but if you still need to close your cabin for the winter, you might think about doing it this weekend.  Access by next week could change.

The WMK water system will not be turned on until next spring, so bring your own potable water if you plan to go up. Wood fires are not permitted inside or outside your cabins (propane-run appliances are OK).

Stay safe!
