KNP Complex Fire update 9/20/2021 8:45 pm

Good Evening. I'm not a big doom and gloom guy. We've been very fortunate with fire spread up until this point. The fire has now reached a point where it is of concern to our communities.

Yesterday, I asked this group to reach out to fire and elected officials to bring attention to our community. This needs to be continued and elevated if you want our communities to have a chance.

The bottom line is the incident management team does not have a plan to contain our side of the fire. I have 25+ years as a professional firefighter. If anyone that has accurate information that states otherwise, please reach out to me.

Tulare county is doing what they can with very limited resources. My hats off to these firefighters.

This community is strong and connected. I would recommend that we use our voice to make sure we are recognized.

Matt G.

  3. Thank you for your report, Alisha! We are very concerned about our National Register structures, but have seen very little in terms of plans to protect the historical cabins.

  4. Hi all - I spoke to Cal Fire who is doing work to protect Mineral King and Silver City within the boundaries of the Park beginning today. It is their highest priority. They believe there are favorable conditions and the plan in place is to create containment lines in that area in the next couple days.

They explained that the National Park is allowing them to use mechanical equipment and retardant drops as well - which are incredible tools not usually allowed in the park.

Please feel free to call or email for information.

    1. Thank you for your prompt action, Alisha! This is encouraging news! If there is anything we as a (remote) community can do, please let us know. I have a large e-list of names ready and willing to help.
