Proposed Campground Fee Increase

OK, folks, here is your chance to express your opinion on the "advanced reservations only" policy at Cold Springs and Atwell Mill campgrounds.  I'm sure many of you have noticed how empty Cold Springs campground is every night, and yet all sites have been reserved.  No walk-ins.  

So people who have driven up the road and secured a camp spot for decades now show up, only to be told there are no sites available, even though half the sites are not occupied overnight.

Cabin Service Survey

At our MKDA board meeting earlier this month, we discussed the idea of keeping a list of contractors, companies, handymen, etc. who would be willing to work on cabins at Mineral King as a resource for other cabin owners. Glenn Glenn Cunningham, John Crowe, and Sharon Devol worked on the document and came up with a form that would be very helpful to the rest of us. It's self-explanatory, and if you can help, your fellow cabin owners would appreciate it!

Mineral King Road Rehab Project

Thank you for providing comments last spring on a proposal by the National Park Service (NPS), Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, to rehabilitate 15.29 miles of Mineral King Road within Sequoia National Park.

Through the public scoping period last spring, the NPS received 30 pieces of correspondence from the public and considered all comments as we evaluated the proposed project. Related to that, I am pleased to share that the Superintendent of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks just approved a modified proposed action to rehabilitate the over 15 miles of Mineral King Road within Sequoia National Park via a categorical exclusion (CE) under the National Environmental Policy Act. The CE and associated documentation, as well as a response to your public comments, are available on the project website:

Have you had work done on your Mineral King, Silver City, or Cabin Cove cabin?  If you were happy with the result, please consider providing the name of the company or individual who did the work, and that resource will be added to a list I am creating for other cabin members who may need work done on their structures.

Nadine Graham Hack: 1935-2022

We are sad to report the passing of Nadine Hack, of the EMK Crowley Cabin.

Born into one of the original families that settled Mineral King, Nadine’s passion and active participation in the preservation of our historic living community never wavered. 

A long-time member of the MKDA Board of Directors and center to both our District Association and Preservation Society efforts, Nadine’s smiling presence will be greatly missed.
