Notes from Mike Hand, retired fire captain, Tulare Co. Fire Dept.

I'm glad to see more resources trickling in. Yes, this fire is understaffed but it's due to the large number of fires, more orders are in and are being filled as equipment becomes available. Fires up north got some good rain on them yesterday and more is expected today which should relieve more resources.

Today should be a repeat of yesterday with maybe clearing a little sooner in Three Rivers and other foothill areas.
With the clearing yesterday it was possible for crews to go Direct Attack on some areas of the fire including areas around Three Rivers. Hopefully with the early clearing they can get aircraft in here sooner to assist. There has been a lot of questions on why isn't their more aircraft? During these fires there is a spotter plane (Air Attack) with an Fire Air Officer that oversees the air show. Fires like these in steep canyons and low visibility make it unsafe at times and aircraft can't fly. Add the high upper-level winds and it makes it hard for especially the fixed wing to be efficient in the steep canyons.

Unfortunately, the Windy Fire to the south of us is also needing resources so fire officials have their hands full.

Kudos to all the people getting involved and feeding these crews, not exactly sure why there isn't a Fire Kitchen on site yet but thank God this community has come together to help these firefighters.

If you see fire equipment driving around your area, they are simply getting familiar with your area just in case. Remember good firefighters always have Plan A, B, & C in their pocket.

Hang in there, pray for our firefighters and weather cooperation, we will get through this. Love the 3R Strong FB Banners that have been designed.
