Mineral King Ranger Programs

 I'll be posting a list of Ranger-led programs in Mineral King throughout the summer.  Here are this week's programs:

Nadine Graham Hack: 1935-2022

We are sad to report the passing of Nadine Hack, of the EMK Crowley Cabin.

Born into one of the original families that settled Mineral King, Nadine’s passion and active participation in the preservation of our historic living community never wavered. 

A long-time member of the MKDA Board of Directors and center to both our District Association and Preservation Society efforts, Nadine’s smiling presence will be greatly missed.

Status Update 5/4/2022

Brief update from Glenn Cunningham of the Woodshed:

Doug and I went up Tues (5/24) to open the Woodshed;  County portion of the road is in pretty good condition; the Park has swept their portion of debris and sand/gravel washed off the fire areas, but in the process they also seemed to have swept off a LOT of areas of the road surface asphalt leaving lots of shallow potholes; the road above Silver City has not been maintained and there are lots of ruts and potholes - drive slow and cautiously!  WMK water was turned on on Wednesday morning but is not yet certified to be potable.  Both campgrounds are open.  The Ranger Station is open.  It’s beautiful up here. Mineral King Road Open for the Season

I just got word that the Mineral King Road gates are now open to the public.

Be careful driving up that road, and enjoy the summer season!

News from Silver City

Hello upcoming Silver City guests and friends,

 

We are excited for your arrival and look forward to another season up in the beautiful Sequoia National Park! Unfortunately, our hiring has not been as productive as we would have hoped by now, like most of the nation. With that, we are going to have change our restaurant capabilities immensely until further notice. (Trust me as soon as this can change you will all know!!)

 

We are working daily to find and hire cooks but in the meantime this is our plan:

 

We will be closed except for pie and drinks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

(If you are staying in Hockett Meadow, Franklin Pass, or a studio we will have a set meal option for you but please call us ahead of time so we know what meals you will be dining with us).

 

Hours:

Breakfast: 8-10am Thursday-Monday, closed Tuesday and Wednesday

Lunch: 11:30-2pm, closed Tuesday and Wednesday

Dinner: 5-7pm, closed Tuesday and Wednesday

 

Menu:

There will be a set menu (we are currently working on what that looks like) and will be serving meals with reservations strongly suggested for all guests and community members. Please note, we will be making quantities based on these reservation numbers so it is recommended you call a minimum of one week prior to arrival for our grocery ordering. (If you decide once here you feel like coming up to the store no big deal. Just let us know if going to be during dinner time or if a group larger than four people as that’s when the numbers will matter most.)

 

I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and hope we can go back to a traditional restaurant scheduling soon! Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated!

Another Pioneer Loss

Sad news from Mark Bissiri, WMK Cabin #18

Hi MK friends,

     I just wanted to let you know that my Mom, Nadean Bissiri, passed today around 10 AM quietly in her bed.  She had come down with cancer in the last 4 months and was in lots of pain. She also missed my Dad terribly.   So in my heart,  I know it is a blessing.  Feel free to advise anyone you know who might be interested.  Also, it was her wish (just like Dad's) to be cremated and no ceremonies.   So that is what will happen.
